baked by melissa — go now!

26 Jul

All you people out there need to get to Baked By Melissa for one of their tasty bite-sized cupcakes.

Baked By Melissa's teeny tiny cupcakes

Their gimmick is this: quarter-sized cupcakes allow you to try more flavors than if you had to order a full-sized cupcake. Personally, I think this idea is genius, speaking as someone who likes multiple cupcake flavors.

Tie-Dyed (Vanilla), Cookie Dough and Red Velvet; Yoo-Hoo box drink

Last weekend, I tried the Tie-Dyed (which is just plain vanilla cake, vanilla frosting), the Cookie Dough and the Red Velvet. Washed it all down with a Yoo-Hoo — A YOO-HOO!

Need I say more? This place is fantastic. Check out their Web site for info about ordering for events, and nation-wide delivery!

just in time for Passover—the mitzvah tanks!

25 Mar

While out for lunch today, I spotted the elusive “Mitzvah Tanks” near Union Square!

The 'Mitzvah Tank' squad, four trucks in total

According to their wikipedia page, the vehicles are “portable educational outreach centers” and “mini-synagogues” that patrol the streets of New York City around major Jewish holidays, preaching Judaism to non-observant or alienated Jews.

I just wish I could have captured the recording of ‘Hava Nagila’ playing over the loud speaker like an ice-cream truck.

Happy Passover, my Jewish (and non-Jewish, looking to convert) friends!
